Iain Maclean

Iain is an experienced development trainer, strategy facilitator and executive level business coach.   He has a track record of more than 20 years in helping individuals and teams in organisations to improve the effectiveness and profitability of their business.  He develops and delivers highly participative tailored training, coaching and skills development programmes, designed to create more effective organisational leadership, business management and personal performance.

He is a partner and co-founder of The Maclean Partnership, a provider of organisational leadership, business management and personal development training services for partners, directors and managers in professional service firms and other businesses.  He specialises in working wi th organisations who wish to develop their highly able “technical specialists” to operate in a more profitable, relationship based, client / supplier focused style and culture.

He has a special interest in working with clients to re-define and re-align their strategic focus, helping them establish clear links between their overall business aims and strategy, their business plans and activities, and their detailed training requirements, at three linked levels - organisational leadership, business management and personal development.  The balanced scorecard approach can be especially useful as a transparent vehicle for achieving this outcome. 

Iain’s solutions are not ”off the shelf.”  All interventions are closely tailored to the culture and requirements of each individual client.  The imperative is to achieve realistic, practical and specific outcomes, which are designed in close collaboration with each client.  

This is achieved by creating innovative and highly participative training and coaching interventions, designed to produce more effective leadership and management skills, enhanced sales & business development successes, improved negotiation outcomes, better assignment and project management skills and enhanced client / supplier relationship development attitudes and behaviours. 

Before establishing The Maclean Partnership in 1997, Iain was with Ernst & Young in their London office where he managed the design and delivery of a range of business and management skills training for clients of the firm.  His seven years at E&Y were all in a client-facing, fee earning role, initially in the HR consulting practice, then as head of the firm’s client training service and latterly as head of management training for clients.  Iain is also a tax professional and prior to joining Ernst & Young in 1990 he held a variety of operational, training and management posts in the UK government’s VAT service, HM Customs & Excise.

Iain is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Management.  He has also been an associate senior lecturer on the MA programmes of International Business Administration & International Marketing Management at the London Regents Business School.

As well as working with a wide variety of UK based organisations, he has also provided business development and related training services to clients in Belgium, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine.
